The Walter Flowers Achievement Award

Background

The Walter Flowers Achievement Award was established in 1984 to recognize significant achievements in the commercial evolution of the synthetic fuels industry. Walter Flowers, for whom the Award is named, was a member of the United States Congress from the State of Alabama. During the 1970s he served on the House Science and Technology Committee where he was an early and vigorous proponent of synthetic fuels development. Following his service in Congress, Walter Flowers was an executive with the Wheelabrator-Frye Corporation and a principal force behind the founding of the National Council on Synthetic Fuels Production in 1980 - the predecessor organization to Energy Frontiers International - where he served as Founding Chairman.
